Join us for a rare chance to see one of Iceland’s natural wonders at a special time of year. With long, light evenings and a quiet glacier, you’ll enjoy a real sense of solitude and beauty. Our certified glacier guide makes sure you explore safely, comfortably and at a pace that suits you. This family-friendly walk is a great introduction to glaciers – perfect for anyone curious to see these frozen giants up close.
Along the way, your guide explains how glaciers form, how they shape the landscape around them and the hazards they hide. By the end, you won’t just have seen a glacier – you’ll understand it.
The route crosses varied terrain: shallow meltwater streams, crevasses and the striking blue ice that makes Sólheimajökull so special. We adjust the pace to the group and can make the tour more challenging if you want something extra.
There are plenty of photo stops, and your guide doubles as your photographer, so you go home with pictures of the glacier glowing in the midnight sun.

What to expect
You need hiking boots that cover the ankle, because crampons need good support. There are no restaurants or shops at the parking lot, so bring sandwiches and snacks. Don’t worry about technical gear – we provide everything you need on the ice.
From the parking lot it’s about a 45-minute walk to the glacier through a beautiful moss-covered valley, with a stop at a viewpoint on the way. No hiking experience is needed. The climb is gentle, about 200 m, but the ground is uneven, so watch your step.
On the ice, keep an extra layer with you – Icelandic weather changes quickly. In total, the tour takes about 4 hours.
