About the Tour

Take the front seat on top of the glacier! there is no better spot to observe total solar eclipse in Iceland.  Once we meet at the meeting point in Arnarstapi, we’ll start with a short briefing. You’ll learn how to use crampons and an ice axe, how to move safely on ice, and what it’s like to walk as part of a rope team. After that, we will drive toward starting point and we’ll begin our ascent toward the glacier. The route includes roughly 1,000 meters of elevation gain, but it’s steady and gradual, and we’ll set a pace that’s comfortable for everyone.

Throughout the climb, your guide and photographer will be capturing moments along the way so you can fully enjoy the experience without worrying about taking pictures. Please keep in mind that reaching the summit is never guaranteed—your safety is always the top priority. We’ll do everything we can, but conditions must allow it.

What we can promise is that from the higher elevations, we’ll have incredible views—and if the weather cooperates, an unforgettable view point for the solar eclipse that will occur in Iceland, with the shadow passing over the Snæfellsnes Peninsula between roughly 4:45 PM and 6:45 PM local time. Totality—the complete blocking of the sun—will begin around 5:45 PM, lasting for over 2 minutes

What to expect ?

As we make our way uphill, you won’t need many layers at the start, but temperatures will gradually drop as we gain elevation. It’s best to bring several thin layers that you can add or remove as needed. Icelandic weather is famously unpredictable, so having extra clothing is always a good idea—conditions can change quickly, and strong winds can come out of nowhere.

For this tour, high hiking boots are essential. We also recommend bringing sandwiches, snacks, and a spare layer of clothing. Some previous hiking experience is helpful but not essential; our guide will take care of all the safety. We will be moving most of the time on glacier terrain attached to the rope to provide maximum safety.

We’ll take a few short breaks along the way for snacks and a longer stop to prepare for and enjoy the solar eclipse. It is strongly recommended to prepare physically for this tour by doing hikes beforehand, especially in snow terrain. A list of essential gear can be found above.
