Discover the natural wonders of Iceland during this special time of year, we’ll take full advantage of the long days as we venture onto the glacier and experience its unique solitude in the safest and most inspiring way—guided by a professional, certified glacier guide. This private, family-friendly walk is an excellent introduction to the world of glaciers, perfect for anyone curious to experience these frozen giants up close.
Throughout the tour, your guide will share insights about glacier formations, the surrounding environment, and the hazards that shape and challenge these landscapes. By the end, you’ll not only have seen a glacier—you’ll understand it on a much deeper level.
Our route takes us across a variety of terrain, including shallow glacier rivers, crevasses, and the striking blue ice features that make Sólheimajökull so unforgettable. We tailor the pace to your group’s fitness level, and we can make the tour more challenging if you’re looking for something extra.
There will be plenty of chances to take photos along the way, and our guide—who also acts as your photographer—will capture the experience so you can take home memories as vivid as the glacier itself with beautiful midnight sun.
This tour requires above-ankle hiking boots, as proper support is important when wearing crampons. Please also note that there are no restaurants or shops at the parking area, so we recommend bringing sandwiches and a few snacks for the day.
The walk from the parking lot to the glacier is short and easy, and we’ll pass a beautiful glacier lagoon along the way—no previous hiking experience needed. Once we step onto the ice, it’s important to have an extra layer with you. Weather in Iceland can change quickly, so packing additional clothing is always a good idea.
The terrain is relatively gentle, with about 200 meters of elevation gain. A short list of essential gear can be found above.
