About the Tour

Fimmvörðuháls trail and the Þórsmörk valley take you through some of the most unique and surreal places in Iceland. Imagine hiking between two glaciers, walking over fresh lava fields, passing old eruption sites, and seeing waterfall after waterfall.

And then you arrive in Þórsmörk, which honestly feels like stepping into another world. Sharp basalt peaks covered in bright green moss, winding blue rivers, quiet valleys… it’s the kind of place that makes you stop and just breathe it all in.

It’s an incredible hike with amazing views, great stories from Icelandic nature and mythology, and that special feeling you only get when you’re out in the wild. If you’re up for a memorable adventure, let’s explore one of Iceland’s best trails together!

What to expect ?

We’ll be hiking between 4 and 7 hours each day, moving through all kinds of terrain—trails, rocky sections, and a few river crossings. Make sure to bring sturdy hiking boots and some kind of footwear for crossing rivers (soft sneakers or sandals work great).

Day 1 is the biggest ascent, with about 1,000 meters of elevation gain. Along the way we’ll pass moss-covered gorges, endless waterfalls, and some truly wild scenery. We finish the day at a mountain hut with views of two glaciers and, if the weather is clear, even the Atlantic Ocean.

On Day 2, we’ll cross a high mountain pass that usually holds snow all year. From there, we descend into Þórsmörk and get our first views of the valley—scenery so colorful and dramatic it almost looks unreal, but trust me, it’s very real. And the weather will make sure you feel alive. Once in the valley, we’ll cross a river and continue to our hut for a well-earned dinner.

On the last day, we’ll start early and take our time exploring the valley in depth. After lunch, we catch the adventure bus back to Reykjavík at 4 PM, heading home with tired legs, full hearts, and a lot of stories to tell.
