Our route takes us across a variety of terrain, including shallow glacier rivers, crevasses, and the striking blue ice features that make Sólheimajökull so unforgettable. We tailor the pace to your group’s fitness level, and we can make the tour more challenging if you’re looking for something extra.
There will be plenty of chances to take photos along the way, and our guide—who also acts as your photographer—will capture the experience so you can take home memories as vivid as the glacier itself with beautiful midnight sun.
This tour requires hiking boots that extend above the ankle, since proper support is essential when wearing crampons. Please note there are no restaurants or shops at the parking area, so we recommend bringing sandwiches and snacks for the day — and don’t worry about the technical gear, we provide everything you need for the ice.
From the parking lot, it’s about a 45-minute walk to the glacier, passing through a beautiful moss-covered valley along the way. No previous hiking experience is needed, and we’ll stop at a beautiful viewpoint en route to take it all in. The terrain is relatively gentle in terms of elevation — about 200 meters of gain — but it is uneven underfoot, so sturdy footing and a bit of care go a long way.
Once we step onto the ice, it’s important to have an extra layer with you, as weather in Iceland can change quickly. Packing additional clothing is always a good idea.
