Discover one of Iceland’s natural wonders in the safest, most inspiring way – with a certified glacier guide. This private, family-friendly walk is a great introduction to glaciers, perfect for anyone curious to see these frozen giants up close.
Along the way, your guide explains how glaciers form, how they shape the landscape around them and the hazards they hide. By the end, you won’t just have seen a glacier – you’ll understand it.
The route crosses varied terrain: shallow meltwater streams, crevasses and the striking blue ice that makes Sólheimajökull so special. Because the tour is private, we set the pace for your group and can make it more challenging if you want something extra.
There are plenty of photo stops, and your guide doubles as your photographer, so you go home with memories as vivid as the glacier itself.

What to expect
You need hiking boots that cover the ankle, because crampons need good support. There are no restaurants or shops at the parking lot, so bring sandwiches and a few snacks.
The walk from the parking lot to the glacier is short and easy, past a beautiful glacier lagoon – no hiking experience needed. On the ice, keep an extra layer with you, as Icelandic weather changes quickly. The climb is gentle, about 200 m.
